Q1. Explain the Australian-India economic and security operations since 1990s.

1. Economic Operations:

However, both nations continue to recognize the potential benefits of such an agreement and are keen on enhancing trade relations.

2. Security Operations:

Joint Military Exercises: Australia and India have been participating in joint military exercises and drills, primarily naval exercises. This collaboration demonstrates the commitment to ensuring maritime security and freedom of navigation in the region.

Strategic Dialogues: High-level strategic dialogues between the two nations have been established to discuss regional security issues, counter-terrorism efforts, and other areas of mutual concern.

Quad: In recent years, the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) has gained significance. This strategic forum includes Australia, India, the United States, and Japan. It aims to promote a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. The Quad has conducted joint military exercises and coordinated on various strategic issues, indicating the converging interests of the member nations.

Indian Ocean Region (IOR): Given the strategic importance of the Indian Ocean, both Australia and India have been emphasizing maritime security and cooperation in the IOR. This collaboration ensures the free flow of trade, tackles piracy, and addresses other shared challenges.

Defence Engagements: Both countries have bolstered defense relations, sharing intelligence, collaborating on defense technology, and participating in regular dialogues at defense and strategic levels.

Challenges and the Way Forward:

Though the Australia-India relationship has strengthened, there have been occasional challenges, including differing views on certain trade matters, bureaucratic hurdles, and perceptions in managing relations with other major powers like China.
