Process of Performance Appraisal:
Objective
Setting: Before evaluating performance, it's crucial to set clear and specific

Performance
Measurement: This involves monitoring and recording the employee's work
behaviors and outcomes to compare them against predefined standards or
objectives.
Feedback: Once
the evaluation is complete, the manager or evaluator provides feedback to the
employee, highlighting areas of strengths and areas that require improvement.
Performance
Discussion: This is an interactive session between the evaluator and the
employee where they discuss the appraisal, potential areas for improvement, and
any clarifications or concerns.
Decision
Making: Based on the appraisal, decisions might be made concerning promotions,
bonuses, training, or even terminations.
Action
Planning: A plan is crafted for the employee's growth, training, and any
corrective measures.
Benefits of Performance Appraisal:

Methods of Performance Appraisal:
Graphic Rating
Scale: It is a type of performance appraisal method where employees are rated
on certain characteristics like punctuality, attitude, output, etc. on a scale.
360-Degree Feedback: Feedback is taken from everyone around the employee—peers, subordinates, superiors, and sometimes even clients.
Behaviorally
Anchored Rating Scales (BARS): Combines elements of traditional rating scales
and critical incidents. Employees are rated on behaviors in pre-defined
categories.
Management by
Objectives (MBO): Employees and managers set objectives together, and at the
end of a period, the achievement of these objectives is evaluated.
Ranking
Methods: Employees are ranked from best to worst.
Critical
Incidents: Focuses on key behaviors that differentiate between effective and
ineffective job performance.
Checklist: A
list of statements or questions which the rater checks off based on the
employee’s performance.
Forced
Distribution: A method where ratings of employees’ performance are distributed
along a bell curve.
